Supported by the National Science Foundation's Innovation-Corps (NSF I-Corps) Propelus Program, I have collected data on infant reflux with the goal of creating practical solutions that cover caregiver clothing. Traditional burp cloths usually miss the mark. Keeping parent clothing fresh while with an infant is one small but important way to improve maternal postpartum health, which I have written about in my essay, "Why Are Mothers Dying?"
My burp cloth capelets for women won the 2024 Baby Innovation Award for Cover of the Year. Unisex reflux covers for men and women are in the research and development stage and are patent-pending.
Living in the Garden State has offered the physical environment for magnificent gardening. I grow herbs, flowers, seasonal vegetables, pumpkins, pears, apples, and persimmons. I've also lost trees, pumpkins on the verge of ripeness, whole blackberry bushes, and grape vines. Through trial and error, I have learned about nature, the earth, pests, seasonal cycles, rest, growth, compost and more. Some of this learning has inspired my new academic research on water. I have also written a short essay about what pruning teaches us about life. I intermittently keep track of garden happenings on Instagram.
